The idea for Intellihot began in 2009, when co-founder Deivasigamani took a vacation to India.

[1] After a 30-hour return trip: his basement was knee-deep in water caused by a busted water heater.

In 2018 NASA’s Glenn Research Center awarded a commercial license to Intellihot Inc. which helps them convert their units to hydrogen. The company has 72 patents right now.[11][12]
